Why are extractions necessary?
If a tooth has become too severely damaged that it cannot be restored or its condition threatens the health of the surrounding teeth and gums, extraction will be recommended. This includes cases such as:
- Baby teeth that do not fall out in time to make room for the permanent teeth to come in properly
- Impacted teeth
- Extra teeth that block other teeth from coming in
- Severely decayed teeth that cannot be treated with a dental crown
- Hopeless teeth due to gum disease
- Infected teeth
Additionally, teeth may need to be removed (even if they are healthy) for successful orthodontic treatment.
