Sedation Dentistry in El Paso, TX

Being afraid to visit the dentist isn’t only a reality for kids. Plenty of adults have anxiety sitting in that dentist’s chair and letting someone poke around in their mouth with sharp tools. This can sadly keep people from receiving the care they need regularly because they’d rather just avoid it altogether.

At El Paso Periodontics & Implant Specialists we provide plenty of options for sedation dentistry for all sorts of problems.

Sedation is an important part of dentistry when it comes to specific procedures that may take longer or be more painful than others. Sometimes it is easier to just put the patient to sleep, such as during a long series of root canals.

Types of Dental Sedation

There are few different levels of sedation, and various types that fit for each situation.

Laughing Gas

Nitrous oxide, better known as laughing gas, is the most common choice when it comes to dental sedation. It can help to lessen anxiety for those who may feel fear by being in the dentist’s chair. It is safe and can easily be regulated by the dentist while they work on you. It’s often called laughing gas because it can make the person feel giddy or laugh a lot.

IV Sedation

This option is when sedatives are directly injected into your veins to help you relax and feel more comfortable. You stay awake and aware but relaxed and more or less can be injected as you go through the procedure.

Enteral Sedation

This is when you take a sedative orally, usually as a pill or liquid that is meant to calm you down and make you drowsy. It helps to make you feel better and more confident about the dental work being performed.
